Samuel Ready Scholarships has played a transformative role at Garrison Forest School since 1977. Beginning with the first Garrison Forest Samuel Ready Scholarship award 34 years ago, SRS has provided many scholarships for deserving Garrison Forest students. This extraordinary gift has provided Garrison girls life-changing opportunities in academics, athletics, service, leadership, and the arts.

Garrison Forest's Samuel Ready Scholars have gone on to exciting and challenging college experiences and fulfilling careers in law, medicine, the arts, business, politics, and countless other fields. Because of the generosity of Samuel Ready Scholarships, these students were able to lead at Garrison Forest, and today, are living lives of purpose—and leading—across Maryland, the nation, and the globe.

School Overview

Since its founding in 1910, Garrison Forest School has offered an indelible educational experience designed to help students achieve their fullest potential and live lives of purpose.

Our educational model is distinctive. Garrison Forest begins with a coeducational preschool for toddlers through Kindergarten-aged boys and girls. From Pre-First and elementary school through middle and high school, Garrison Forest is an all-girls' day school, with a regional, national, and international residential program for girls beginning in Eighth Grade. Guided by our motto, Esse Quam Videri—To Be Rather Than To Seem, the academic program balances exceedingly high standards within a welcoming, spirited atmosphere that enables each student to flourish intellectually and individually.

Our singular experiential programs include:

  • Garrison Forest's own Women in Science and Engineering (WISE), an innovative partnership with The Johns Hopkins University.
  • The newly inaugurated James Center: Programs and Partnerships with a Public Purpose offering experiential and service learning and leadership training.
  • The Elsie Foster Jenkins '53 Fellows, competitive community service fellowships to fund student projects at home and abroad.
  • Our residential program for Eighth-Twelfth Grade students from across the region, country, and around the world.
  • Throughout our history, Garrison Forest School has embraced new challenges with innovation while remaining steadfast to our defining, founding qualities. With vision and authenticity, spirit and innovation, we continue to prepare students for the complex and changing world in which they will live.
